Custodial Skills Training Program

The Custodial Skills Training Program is offered in partnership with White Gloves Cleaning Services and delivered through a blended training format. Participants are required to complete a series of online training videos, online WHMIS training and in-person practical training. 

 

Training is 3 days and FREE to those who meet eligibility requirements and register with the PREP Employment Readiness Program.

Online Training

Basic computer skills, a computer, webcam and reliable internet connection are required for training.

DAY 1: Participants will be trained on the following through online training videos:

  • Hard Floor Care

  • Carpet Cleaning

  • Restroom Cleaning

  • Private Office Cleaning

  • Classroom Cleaning

  • How to Work a Section

  • Cleaning for COVID-19

  • Safety

  • Customer Interaction

  • Advanced Awareness

After each video, there is a short quiz. Participants who pass each quiz can print a Certificate of Completion for every topic. 

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System

(WHMIS) Training

DAY 2: WHMIS training is delivered through an e-course covering the following:

  • Overview of WHMIS

  • Overview of hazard groups and classes

  • Physical hazards

  • Health Hazards

  • Labels including required lable elements

  • Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)

After completing the e-course, participants are required to complete a multiple choice exam. Upon successful completion, participants will be able to print a Certificate of Completion.

DAY 3: Participants will have the opportunity to visit a job site and receive hands-on practical training. Here they will learn about different cleaning products, equipment, recycling, composting and workplace safety. 

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the PREP Employment Readiness Program.
