Greening

DMSMCA’s Greening Program has been built with resident input and engagement. In 2010 we created a Five Year Green Action Plan to guide our program and have been busily at work implementing many of the initiatives listed in the plan. We research, develop projects and undertake advocacy in the areas of active transportation, composting, climate change, greenspace management and redevelopment, community gardening and food security.

Some of the Guiding Principles for our greening program include:

· focus on nature and re-naturalizing areas of our community This includes creating more habitat for animals and beginning to reintroduce native species

· Community members also prioritized the concept of co-operation and putting priority on creating communal green spaces in the community

· Promoting local stores and the local economy
