Oral History Project: Voices of Daniel Mcintyre/St. Matthews
In partnership with the Oral History Department at the University of Winnipeg, Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews Community Association (DMSMCA) is launching a fascinating new project about Oral History and our communities.
Oral history is a method of recording and tracking life histories, storytelling, narratives – all by using the real voices of real people in an interview process. Oral histories are recorded and shared about many subjects – individuals, families, communities, cultural groups, streets, buildings – the list is endless.
DMSMCA’s oral history project is about our community, and how we find connection to each other and to this amazing neighbourhood. Maybe we find connection through a particular neighbourhood school, a street, a meeting place. Maybe it’s through neighbourhood events or teams. Or maybe it’s simply by living on our own street or memories of a previous family home. Whatever the connection, we all have some common experiences which we share with others in our neighbourhood.
Voices of Daniel McIntyre & St. Matthews is about just that – voices. We need to hear as many neighbourhood voices as possible, and find strength as a community through those voices which are often unheard. We need to change perceptions of our neighbourhood, recognize our assets, and find out more about how we connect and what we do share.
We are looking for your voice.
Do you feel a connection to the neighbourhood of Daniel McIntyre & St. Matthews?
Do you live here, did you grow up here, did your grandparents start their family here?
Do you work here, volunteer here, play here, take part in groups here?
Do you have some other strong connection to the neighbourhood, whether past or present?
